The Threat of Heavy Metals with Human Health

The Threat of Heavy Metals with Human Health

Jessie S |

Do you ever get that feeling that everything out there around is trying to kill us? Realistically speaking, this isn’t actually too far off from the truth, as much as you may not want to hear it!  But, before you start panicking and feeling apprehensive about, well, everything, let’s just narrow that in a little bit to the potential threat of heavy metals.

What are examples of heavy metals?

Most people know that heavy metals are bad for us, but we don’t 100% know what they are or where they come from.  Examples of heavy metals include chromium, silver, cadmium and, of course, the more common ones of mercury and lead.  All of these can cause serious problems with human health (more on that in the next section).

These heavy metals come from the earth itself. Specifically, the earth’s crust.  These metals are released out into the atmosphere and they make our way throughout ecosystems so that they often end up in our water supply.  This is where proper water decontamination comes into play.

What kind of harm can heavy metals do?

As you might be able to imagine, the threat of heavy metals comes from determining how much of them you are ingesting and what kind of heavy metal it is.  However, heavy metals are considered toxic to humans.  There can be issues with long-term accumulation of heavy metals over time (think of it as build-up within your body), which lead to early issues with physical, muscular and neurological degeneration.  For example, there is thought to be a link between Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and heavy metal toxicity.  Similarly, it’s thought that heavy metal toxicity and poisoning leads to fertility and productive issues, too, though there is still more research to be done in that area.

However, there are also “everyday” risks, too, which can include issues with mental disorders, damage to the blood, issues with lungs, kidneys, the liver, and other vital organs, and so on.  Essentially, heavy metals attach the central nervous system and all of its functions.

What can we do to protect ourselves from heavy metal threats?

As scary as it seems, you can protect yourself!  Specifically, you’ll want to take a look at your water source and have it tested regularly to ensure that there are only accepted amounts of heavy metals and other contaminants.  Above and beyond that, you can always benefit greatly from having a proper water filtration system in place so that the water you drink is the healthiest and best water you can possibly drink.

Not only will that be good for protecting yourself against heavy metals and their long-lasting effects, but it will also give you better tasting water, which can help improve your overall cooking and baking benefits, too!c

How Frizzlife defends against heavy metals

Reduce heavy metals - Carbon Filter Solution

Frizzlife under sink carbon water filter solution including M-series and S-series is capable of effectively reducing heavy metals to a considerable extent. As for MK99 and MP99 water filter system, they adopt 2-in-1 composite filter, specifically PP sediment and compounded activated carbon filter with high precision of 0.5 micron. As regards SK99 and SP99 3-stage water filtration systems, it is the 3rd stage carbon block filter that reduces heavy metals from your tap water.

What’s more important, both M-series and S-series filter systems are certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 42 & 53. Frizzlife is always committed to delivering reliable and efficient water solution to all of you.

 What is NSF/ANSI 42 & 53? (NSF, 2019)

  • NSF/ANSI 53: Filters are certified to reduce a contaminant with a heath effect, which has test reports to reduce Lead, Arsenic, Fluoride, etc. Health effects are set in this standard as regulated by the U.S. EPA.
  • NSF/ANSI 42: Filtered are certified to reduce chlorine and taste/odor, etc.

Almost remove heavy metals - Reverse Osmosis Solution

As explained in other articles, the filtration performance of reverse osmosis is unbeatable by any other filtration methods, such as normal carbon filter, UF, UV etc. Frizzlife also provide a variety of RO options, which includes PD series, PX series and countertop unit WA99.

All of these RO water filters use top-grade RO membrane with the highest filtration accuracy of 0.0001 micron, the TDS removal rate of which could reach at least 94%! It means the RO water filter almost removes everything from feed water, but only allows the pure water to bypass. If your feed water quality is quite bad or if you have a very high requirement in filtering out heavy metals, Frizzlife RO system is your right choice!

Conclusion

Human health is fragile and there are, in fact, a lot of things that are out there to kill us. Fight back in turn with the right water filter as the durable and trustworthy line of defence against heavy metals.
